The agricultural associations and four regional councillors of VOX ask the European Commissioner to put an end to the Green Pact
The VOX delegation in the European Parliament led by Jorge Buxadé has organised a meeting in Brussels with the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, to whom they have conveyed the demands of the primary sector.
Also present were the Minister of Agriculture of Castilla y León, Gerardo Dueñas; of Aragón, Ángel Samper; and of the Valencian Community, José Luis Aguirre; and the Minister of Rural World of Extremadura, Ignacio Higuero; the national MP Ricardo Chamorro, and representatives and spokespersons of agricultural and livestock associations such as ASAJA, COAG, Agrifood Cooperatives and COPA-COGECA.
“Today is a historic day for the European Parliament itself”, said Jorge Buxadé, before stressing that in the three hours of debate all the issues affecting farmers and livestock farmers were dealt with, and demanding that in the next legislature the Green Pact be repealed, that reports be drawn up on the evaluation of the impact of all current regulations on profitability and that trade agreements with third countries be reviewed to guarantee the mirror clauses.
The meeting took place in the context of the protests of the agricultural world in Spain and throughout Europe against the Green Pact, Agenda 2030 and the myriad of regulations that stifle farmers, ranchers and fishermen.
In his speech, the CyL councillor Gerardo Dueñas called for “placing the primary sector at the centre of European policies” and reiterated that the EU’s important decisions in recent years “have been taken much more from ideology than from science”.
For his part, José Luis Aguirre pointed out that Spanish farmers “are at a disadvantage compared to farmers from third countries, which creates a situation of unfair competition”; Ángel Samper denounced the “lobbies and wolves” that are swarming around Brussels; and Ignacio Higuero called for no more obstacles to be put in the way of the agricultural sector and for the principle of Community preference to be applied.
Likewise, the representatives of the agricultural and livestock associations said that they “need immediate answers”, and that they want to see the “simplification” package that the Commission is organising, and have asked for changes to the CAP.
