Ferrovial to expand three highways in Texas for 265 million dollars
The Ferrovial Group, through Webber, its construction subsidiary in the United States, will carry out three contracts in Texas for 265 million dollars (equivalent to approximately 240 million euro). The projects reinforce Ferrovial’s presence in North America, a strategic market for the company, which accounts for most of its revenues.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has chosen Webber to widen the SL 335 highway in Amarillo, in the north of the state. Worth $134 million (equivalent to approximately 121 million euros), the project involves the extension of the main lane by 5.6 miles (approximately 9 kilometres), as well as the construction of a secondary access road. Work will begin in June this year and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Ferrovial’s subsidiary will also carry out the widening of SH 99 in the Houston district. The work, which will extend from the West Park Tollway to IH-10 in Katy, is worth $90 million (equivalent to around 82 million euro). Project tasks include the expansion of 6.5 miles (about 10.5 kilometres) of the mainline lane, as well as increasing the capacity of several bridges. The project is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
Ferrovial subsidiary to widen SL 378 highway
For the last of the projects, the company will widen SL 378 in the San Angelo district, a city located in Tom Green County, for $40 million (equivalent to around 36 million euro). Under the contract, it will reconstruct three kilometres of the road to make room for a new continuous centre lane to help alleviate traffic congestion. The project, which will begin in August, is scheduled for completion in 2026.
With these contracts, Webber is already working on 35 civil works projects in Texas, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The Ferrovial subsidiary was recently awarded a 278 million euro contract to widen a highway in North Carolina and another 118 million euro contract to widen SH 36 in Texas. It also participates, together with Ferrovial Construction, in the I-35 project in San Antonio, worth 1,273 million euro.
