Russia announces the seizure of the town of Krinki, Kherson

Authorities in Ukraine’s Kherson province announced on Thursday that the eastern Ukrainian town of Krinki had been taken following fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces in the area.

The governor of Kherson, Vladimir Saldo, said that “they have managed to clear the town of Krinki of Ukrainian troops”, although the Ukrainian army “is still trying to reach the islets in the Dnieper River”.

“The entire territory is completely cleared, our army is monitoring the situation on the shore. However, Ukrainian troops are still trying to reach one of the islands in the area,” he stressed, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

Saldo also said that earlier this week Russian forces had been able to overcome the actions of a “group of Ukrainian saboteurs” in Kherson and confirmed the deaths of around 20 servicemen and the seizure of three boats and weapons. “Almost all of it is NATO. Attempts continue but everything is now under control of our forces,” he said.
