Germany bans Islamic Center of Hamburg for islamist extremism
The authorities of Germany have banned the activities of the Islamic Center of Hamburg (IZH). They are citing its promotion of Islamist extremism. According to national intelligence services, the IZH has been classified as an extremist organization, for aggressively spreading the ideology of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. But also for attempting to incite a similar revolution in Germany.
The intelligence services explained that the IZH and its affiliated sub-organizations aim to establish an authoritarian and theocratic government, in place of a democratic society. Additionally, the center has been accused of promoting anti-Semitism and supporting Hezbollah, a terrorist organization that is banned in Germany.
Government’s stance
In response to these findings, the German Ministry of the Interior stated that the IZH “seeks unconstitutional objectives.” The ministry’s statement highlighted that authorities confiscated the organization’s assets. Ther carried out raids on 53 properties in Berlin, Hamburg, and other states. This decision was officially published in the Federal Gazette following the raids. They include the Shia Imam Ali Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque.
Nancy Faeser, Interior Minister of Germany, asserted that the Islamic Center of Hamburg “promotes a totalitarian and extremist Islamist ideology.” She added this is fundamentally opposed to “human dignity, women’s rights, an independent judicial system, and democratic governance.”
