Vinces founder launches parliamentary news outlet headed by Pilar Velasco
Journalists and public affairs specialists launch Demócrata, the first parliamentary news media, after several months of preparation.
The media outlet, which will have a similar approach to Axel Springer’s US media outlet Político or The Hill, will offer news and analysis of parliamentary current affairs, with a more technical approach, they say, than that of the general media. It will broaden its news focus beyond the main issues that dominate the media agenda, with the aim of “contributing to transparency in democracy”, according to internal sources.
Demócrata is a media outlet directed by Pilar Velasco, a veteran journalist with La SER and contributor to media outlets such as TVE, Infolibre and ElNacional.cat. She is in charge of a team of four journalists who will cover information aimed, especially, at parliamentarians, media, companies and citizens.
The new medium is directed by journalist Pilar Velasco, a veteran journalist with La SER and contributor to various print media.
The public affairs consultancy, Vinces Consulting, was listed in the Mercantile Register as the sole administrator at the time of the constitution of Demócrata’s publishing company – called Información y Participación S.L. – with the representation of its founder, David Córdova.
However, internal sources emphasise that the new parliamentary information media will not be linked to this consultancy firm and clarify that the only existing relationship between the two is that Córdova is a partner in the project in a personal capacity, together with six other people linked to the Political Communication, Public Affairs or media sector.
Demócrata plans to offer its information free of charge and has ruled out a paywall for the time being.
