Airlines schedule 126.6 million seats, 15.1% more, at Aena’s airports for winter
The airlines are planning to offer 126.6 million seats in the airports managed by Aena in Spain for the winter. This is 15.1% more than the same period last year. Some 731,000 aircraft operations are expected this season, between departures and arrivals, until 30 March. There will be 145 more routes operated than in 2022, reaching a total of 2,377 routes.
The airports with the largest number of seats are Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Alicante-Elche Miguel, Gran Canaria, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Palma de Mallorca, and Tenerife Sur. Madrid’s airport will benefit the most, 12% more than in 2022, with the offer of more than 31.4 million seats. In second place, Barcelona airport will receive 23.8 million, i.e. 20% more than last year.
Aena is the market leader in Europe in terms of seats, while Asia shows the greatest growth.
By geographical areas, the European market stands out from the rest with a total of 68.7 million seats, i.e. 19% more than last year. The Spanish market is in second place, reflecting a 7% increase to 44.8 million seats. However, the biggest increase in this period compared to 2022 is observed in the Asian market, which triples its offer by 257% and reaches 621,000 seats.
Within Europe, after Spain, the United Kingdom is the market with the highest number of seats on offer, some 16.1 million seats. These figures show a growth in the English zone of 18%. This is followed by Germany, with a 20% increase in seats, reaching a total of 10.4 million seats. After the German market, Italy reaches 7.8 million, 27% more than in 2022. France reaches 6.2 million, a 12% increase, and the Netherlands increases its offer by 12% with 3.9 million seats.
The markets with the largest global seat supply this winter after Asia are Poland, up 98%, the Czech Republic, up 83%, Hungary, up 61%, the United Arab Emirates, up 42%, and Austria, up 30%.
