A young American stops the sexual assault of a German woman by two Syrians on a tram and ends up stabbed
A young American was stabbed in Germany after saving a girl from an attempted sexual assault on a tram in Dresden. The 21-year-old, originally from the United States, intervened when two individuals began harassing a group of girls in the early hours of the morning, triggering a violent confrontation that ended with serious stab wounds.
The incident occurred on tram line 7, between the Weixdorf and Pennrich stops, at 12:25 a.m. from Saturday to Sunday. After defending the German girl, the tourist was attacked by the assailants, who first struck him and then returned with a knife, causing cuts to his face and leaving the tram carriage covered in blood. Several passengers improvised bandages with handkerchiefs to stop the bleeding before the arrival of emergency services.
The local police spokesperson, Lukas Reumund, confirmed to the newspaper Bild that the injured man was immediately taken by ambulance to a hospital. Although his injuries were serious, his life is not in danger.
One of the suspects was intercepted just a few minutes later, only 700 meters from the scene. He is Majd A., a 21-year-old Syrian with a record of theft and assault, who tried to flee on a rented electric scooter. According to the investigation, this individual reportedly started the fight with punches but was not responsible for the knife wounds. The perpetrator of the stabbing remains at large.
The public prosecutor’s office decided to release Majd A. on bail, a decision that has sparked intense debate. Prosecutor Jürgen Schmidt explained that there was insufficient evidence to directly link him to the stabbing and that, since he has a permanent residence in Dresden, he was not considered a flight risk or likely to obstruct the judicial process.
According to police investigations, the sequence of events began with an argument between the American tourist and the two suspects, who were harassing the young female passenger. Subsequently, one of the assailants left the scene, returned with a knife, and carried out the stabbing, while his companion had already been involved in the initial blows.
Thomas Geithner, another police spokesperson, detailed that initially only a single wound was reported, but doctors later confirmed that the young American suffered multiple cuts to his face. He also noted that the tram’s surveillance cameras are being reviewed to clarify what happened and to confirm the involvement of those implicated.
The young man, for his part, shared a video on social media denouncing what happened and insisting that Europe has a problem with illegal immigration: “They commit crimes and are released because they are not from these countries, but the police know them all.”
