Vueling partners with BitPay to accept cryptocurrencies as a payment alternative
The airline Vueling has partnered with BitPay, the world’s largest provider of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency payment services, and will be the “first low-cost airline in Europe” to accept cryptocurrencies as an alternative form of payment.
To offer this service, the airline will rely on the technology of UATP, the global payment network for the airline industry, which will allow a quick integration process, the airline said in a statement.
Thanks to this agreement, Vueling will accept cryptocurrencies as a valid payment alternative from the beginning of 2023, although for the time being this option will be limited to individuals.
Through its website, Vueling will display ticket prices in euros and customers will be able to pay for their flight from more than 100 wallets and choose from 13 different cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Shiba Inu (SHIB) or Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), among others.
Vueling’s head of distribution strategy and alliances, Jesús Monzó, stressed that with this agreement “Vueling once again reaffirms its position as a digital airline”.
