Demonstrators gather to oppose the conference held by Vox party in Madrid
Approximately 1,000 protesters gathered to voice their concerns regarding the increasing influence of ultra-conservative ideology in Europe. This occurred concurrently with the Europa Viva 24 conference in Madrid, hosted by Spain’s conservative Vox party, with right-wing leaders and politicians from Argentina, France, Italy, and Hungary present.
Various groups coordinated the demonstration in opposition to the Vox gathering. The protesters united under the slogan ‘All to Colón against fascism’.
Many analysts perceive this assembly in Madrid as a significant stride towards the global unification of far-right beliefs.
“This is a rise in fascism,” a protester commented. “With Javier Milei’s appearance, we witness a troubling alliance forming among different political and business sectors, which should because for concern.”
Argentinian President Javier Milei is among the figures participating in Europa Viva 24, Vox party, which is taking place two weeks before the EU Parliament elections.
Milei is in the midst of his three-day visit to Spain. His itinerary does not include meetings with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, King Felipe VI, or other government officials.
France’s presidential candidate Marine Le Pen, Portugal’s Chega leader Andre Ventura, and Chile’s presidential runner-up Jose Antonio Kast also joined the event.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni joined via video call, while Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki sent pre-recorded messages.
“We must remain steadfast and show them that we are present and will not tolerate any regression of the rights we have fought for,” another protester emphasized.
On the other hand, Vox reported that nearly 11,000 supporters filled a former bullring, waving Spanish flags alongside those from Argentina, Cuba, Venezuela, and Israel.
The audience enthusiastically responded to speakers like Le Pen and Ventura, while expressing disapproval towards mentions of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, feminism, and socialism.
Nationalism and sovereignty were central themes in the event.
