Orbán’s Party on the Patriots for Europe Group: “Together we will stop illegal immigration and protect Europeans”
Formation of the Patriots for Europe Group
Orbán’s Patriots for Europe group has become the third largest faction in the European Parliament, with 84 MEPs. Established last Monday, the group’s main objectives are 3. To confront the Brussels bureaucrats, combat illegal immigration, and defend national sovereignty. Its members include parties like National Rally, VOX, Fidesz, among others, totaling 13 parties from 12 different countries.
Leadership of the group
The group’s president is Jordan Bardella, the National Rally (RN) candidate for prime minister in France. The first vice-president is Kinga Gál, from Hungary’s Fidesz party. Gál emphasized that Patriots for Europe will oppose the federalist offensive, led by popular and socialist factions. She explained that the group categorically rejects the decisions of bureaucrats who ignore the interests of Europeans, and the sovereignty of democratically elected national governments. “We do not act against others but for our country. We are patriots,” Gál stated.
Statements from Fidesz leaders
Tamás Deutsch, head of the Fidesz delegation, described the creation of the new parliamentary group Patriots for Europe as a “historic moment.” “More than 20 million people have voted for Patriots,” he noted. In this regard, he stated that they will work to preserve freedom, peace, and Christian heritage, and to build a “more livable and stronger Europe based on sovereign nations.” He also highlighted, “We will stop illegal immigration and protect Europe and Europeans.”
Security perspective
György Bakondi, Viktor Orbán’s security advisor, asserted that Patriots for Europe will be able to reverse measures that encourage illegal immigration. He emphasized that there is an increasing number of crimes and violence, particularly against police and women, committed by illegal immigrants. Bakondi concluded, “The scheme behind illegal immigration is increasingly visible. It is hard to imagine a Muslim majority voting for Christian and conservative parties.”
The Patriots for Europe group presents itself as a political force determined to defend national sovereignty and the interests of Europeans against illegal immigration and the centralizing policies of Brussels. With committed leaders and significant voter support, their influence in the European Parliament promises to be notable in the coming years.
