China calls for peace plan with ceasefire, negotiations and an end to sanctions
The Chinese government has presented a document in which it explains its “position for a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine” in twelve points. China emphasizes the need for dialogue and negotiations, as well as respect for the sovereignty of countries. “Dialogue and negotiations are the only viable way to resolve the crisis in Ukraine,” the Ministry said in a document published on its website, in which it emphasizes some of the points repeated by Beijing in recent months and calls on the international community to “promote peace talks”.
The Ministry’s statement indicates that countries must abandon the Cold War mentality and the expansion of military blocs. Instead, a balanced, effective, and sustainable European security architecture should be built. The Chinese government also calls for a ceasefire and for all parties to exercise restraint to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control.
Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, China has insisted on the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the legitimate security concerns, of all countries. Beijing demands an end to unilateral sanctions, which do not solve problems but create new ones.
Additionally, the Chinese government expresses opposition to the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons and calls for the safety of nuclear power plants in Ukraine to be maintained. It also indicates that it is necessary to resolve the humanitarian crisis with actions that respect the principles of neutrality and impartiality.
In summary, China is willing to play a constructive role in the political solution to the crisis in Ukraine. The Chinese government calls for the respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, joint defense of the basic norms underlying international relations, and promotion of a balanced and sustainable security architecture in Europe.
