Denmark to remove chinese surveillance cameras for security reasons
Denmark will remove surveillance cameras manufactured by Chinese companies from its roads due to security concerns, given the possibility that they could be used for espionage activities by China.
The Road Directorate has stated in an email to the news portal Altinget, which was also reported by the news agency Ritzau, that it is reviewing its equipment “to ensure compliance with the Cybersecurity Center’s guidelines.”
In this regard, it announced that it will replace the cameras from the Chinese company Hikvision with other security devices. The Road Directorate had invested around five million crowns in 2022 for 170 of these devices.
Several countries have removed cameras made by Hikvision and Zhejiang Dahua Technology, as these two companies have been accused by senior U.S. officials of being involved in the surveillance of the population in China’s Xinjiang region, where about one million Uyghurs are in detention camps.
