Meliá resumes growth in Cuba with four new hotels
Meliá Hotels International continues to strengthen its presence in Cuba, one of its main markets with 32 establishments. In its commitment to enhance the destination’s value proposition, the chain will introduce new brands and lifestyle concepts that seek to elevate the customer experience to a higher level.
The group has shown its intentions this week at Fitcuba – the trade fair for tourism professionals – where its Vice President and CEO, Gabriel Escarrer, announced the new projects of the company, which is consolidating its position as the leading hotel chain in the country and in the Caribbean. We have no doubt that Cuba will return to pre-crisis levels and will be in better condition than ever,” said Escarrer. That is why it is essential for us to continue improving our portfolio of hotels on the island, promoting new quality experiences in line with an increasingly demanding clientele”. At the end of 2022, international visitors grew 4.5 times more than in 2021 and it is estimated that this year the volume of tourists will reach 3.5 million.
In this context, Meliá Trinidad Peninsula will open next autumn and will be the first five-star hotel in the colonial town of Trinidad – declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site – as a true reflection of Meliá’s commitment to creating state-of-the-art luxury hotels. Located just a few minutes from the city and the Topes de Collantes natural park, the hotel is the perfect starting point to discover one of Cuba’s most charming regions. It stretches at the foot of María Aguilar beach, on the Ancón peninsula, with spectacular views of the Caribbean waters and the Escambray Mountains. It has more than 400 modern rooms, some of them with direct access to the swimming pool. The Level area, the superior concept of the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand, is a private space for those looking to enjoy the exceptional, with extra services and personalised attention. A true oasis of luxury within the hotel.
Meliá Trinidad Peninsula is the ideal choice for families and couples visiting one of Cuba’s quintessential destinations, but also for groups and weddings, thanks to its excellent facilities and services, which include a wide gastronomic offer, children’s club and play area, an extraordinary YHI spa, business centre, multiple rooms for events and a varied offer of entertainment and sports activities, such as diving and windsurfing, to make the most of the warm waters of the Caribbean.
On the other hand, Sol Caribe Beach is Meliá’s new hotel in Varadero, which has just opened its doors. On the beachfront and with easy access to the city centre and shopping areas, this hotel has been specially designed for families, where any member of the tribe will find the proposal that best suits their needs. Its rooms are colourful and inspiring and its All Inclusive gastronomic experience is made up of multiple proposals. But, above all, young and old are guaranteed to have fun at the hotel, thanks to its entertaining entertainment programme: themed shows, educational games, competitions, dance classes and a multitude of sports activities on the beach. In addition, the hotel is only 5 km from the Varadero Golf Club, an 18-hole golf course.
In addition, Escarrer has announced 4 other projects for the island that will start operating this year under the company’s portfolio. The first of these will be the INNSiDE Habana Catedral, a completely new 50-room hotel that will mark the entry of INNSIDE by Meliá in the capital, one of the group’s lifestyle brands, where the most adventurous travellers will find an affordable proposal adapted to their lifestyle, spontaneous, informal and creative. The hotel, located in the central Plaza de la Catedral, aims to connect the traveller community with the city and be part of their experience of discovery.
The second will be the renowned 188-room Hotel Plaza de La Habana. The iconic hotel opened in 1909, famous for its neoclassical architecture and triangular floor plan, will join the exclusive portfolio of The Meliá Collection, the group’s youngest luxury brand, which encompasses the most unique and charismatic hotels in the portfolio, strongly connected to the destination in which they are located. In this way, the hotel will retain its traditional flavour while incorporating the luxury services and amenities demanded by the most demanding and experienced guests.
Also in Havana, the company will take over the management of the historic Hotel Sevilla, located next to the Paseo del Prado. This property, a symbol of the heritage city, will join the Affiliated by Meliá network and has 178 rooms, a suggestive gastronomic offer and multiple spaces that will provide guests with unforgettable memories of their stay in the Cuban capital.
Finally, in Holguín, Meliá will manage the Sol Turquesa Beach hotel, a 531-room accommodation located in the middle of a magnificent natural landscape, on Yuraguanal beach. Its design simulates a Spanish hacienda from the late 19th century and stands out for its comfortable rooms and gastronomic options. Its cascading pools offer a unique experience in this beautiful destination in eastern Cuba.
