Putin announces the stationing of nuclear missiles dubbed Satan II
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently announced the deployment of new Sarmat heavy intercontinental missiles and the mass delivery of Kinzhal and Tsirkon hypersonic missiles to the Armed Forces. Putin stressed the importance of having a modern and effective army and fleet to ensure the country’s security and sovereignty, its stable and future development.
In this regard, Putin said that special attention will be devoted to the nuclear triad and that the first launch facilities for the Sarmat missile systems with the new heavy missile will become operational this year. Super-heavy intercontinental missiles of the Sarmat type, also known as Satan II by Western militaries, are capable of delivering multiple nuclear warheads.
In addition, the Russian military industrial complex will continue serial production of the Kinzhal air-launched hypersonic air-launched missile systems and begin mass delivery of the Tsirkon naval-launched hypersonic missiles. Putin also announced the delivery to the Russian Navy of the Borei-A project missile-carrying submarine Imperator Aleksandr III, which represents a 100 percent renewal of Russia’s strategic naval forces. Three more submarines of this type are expected to be delivered in the coming years.
