The PP to the Rescue of Von der Leyen: Votes Against the Commission of Inquiry into the Pfizer Case
The Partido Popular (PP) has come to the rescue of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen by voting against the creation of a commission of inquiry into the Pfizer case and other corruption scandals in Brussels. “Accomplices,” said the head of VOX’s delegation, Jorge Buxadé.
“Yet another scandal,” he added, before reiterating that the vote concerned the establishment of a commission of inquiry into all corruption cases within “that swamp Brussels has become.” “They’re with Von der Leyen, with corruption, with grabbing our money. The two-party system protects itself in the most outrageous and scandalous vote we’ve seen in recent years.”
Patriots for Europe, the group formed by VOX and Hungary’s Fidesz, succeeded in formally submitting the request to create a commission of inquiry into corruption within the European Union institutions: abuse of power, corruption, money laundering, among others.
“We must remember the case of Didier J. L. Reynders, that commissioner who, apparently, kept winning the lottery and is now involved in a judicial process in Belgium,” Buxadé stated. “Reynders, the one who brought together Félix Bolaños and González Pons to seal the deal on the General Council of the Judiciary, used to lecture others about the rule of law. And they became very close,” he said.
He went on to cite foreign interference in EU policies, the Catargate scandal, the Morocco case, the Huawei case, NGO payments, and the case involving Von der Leyen and Pfizer over the COVID vaccine contracts.
