Zelensky now praises Trump’s ‘determination’ to achieve peace in Ukraine
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, publicly praised the “clear stance and determination” of U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday. Zelensky’s commendation came after Trump announced plans to shorten the 50-day deadline originally set for Russia to reach a ceasefire agreement in the ongoing conflict. Trump proposed reducing the timeframe to just over a week, signaling urgency and impatience with the lack of progress.
In a message posted on his social media profile on X, Zelensky expressed gratitude towards Trump for his commitment to saving lives and ending the devastating war. He reaffirmed Ukraine’s dedication to peace and emphasized the importance of working closely with the United States to build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous future for both nations. Zelensky also highlighted that significant change could come through determined efforts to achieve lasting peace.
Earlier that day, speaking from Scotland, Trump shared his frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions. Prior to a private meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump revealed his intention to reduce the original 50-day deadline to around ten or twelve days. He explained that the longer timeframe was initially set out of generosity but now sees no reason to wait any longer as there has been no tangible progress toward a ceasefire.
Trump’s comments underscored his disappointment with the current state of negotiations and reflected his desire to accelerate efforts to end hostilities. The move to shorten the deadline adds pressure on Russia to respond swiftly and engage seriously in peace talks. Zelensky’s praise of Trump’s determination suggests a hopeful alignment between Ukraine and the U.S. as they seek an end to the conflict.
