Meloneras is committed to becoming an international benchmark in cocktail making
Meloneras has set itself the ambitious goal of consolidating itself as one of the best tourist destinations linked to cocktails. The project is complex and exciting in equal parts, and its success requires a commitment like the one being made by the Lopesan Hotel Group to revitalise the bars of its hotels in the most exclusive area in the south of Gran Canaria.
The S U R U Cocktail Bar at the Hotel Faro, part of the Lopesan Collection Hotel, and the Central Bar at the Lopesan Costa Meloneras Resort & Spa, are two examples that illustrate the company’s strenuous efforts to provide its clients with an original and differentiated proposal, which helps to raise the level of satisfaction of travellers who choose Gran Canaria as a tourist destination to enjoy their holidays.
S U R U Cocktail Bar was the setting chosen by Campari Academy on the road to host the master class given by Giacomo Giannotti, owner of the Paradiso Cocktail Bar in Barcelona and one of the most respected voices in the bartender’s guild. During his talk, he underlined the elements that have influenced a bar like his, with its speakeasy format, to become a meeting point of international reference, being elected the best establishment in the world by the prestigious ranking World’s 50 Best Bars.
Hospitality, a professional and elegant attitude, the use of top quality products and sustainability, “are the essential pillars on which the success of any leisure and restaurant establishment must be based”, according to Giannotti.
During his stay on the island, the owner of Cocktail Bar Paradiso was able to see at first hand the careful proposal of the Lopesan Group and, at the same time, he had the opportunity to analyse the quality and originality of the cocktail menus offered by the bars of the hotels in Meloneras, also visiting the proposals of the Lopesan Villa del Conde Resort & Thalasso and the Lopesan Baobab Resort.
At this point, Giacomo Giannotti welcomed the fact that all the bars were themed, “following the idea of the hotels in which they are located, but, equally, it is very attractive that each one has its own well-defined identity”.
At the end of his master class, Giannotti had the opportunity to reflect on trends in the tourism sector with Lopesan Group’s head of bars, Raimondo Palomba, highlighting the increasing level of customer demand today. “Premium travellers are used to staying in spectacular hotels all over the world and take for granted that they will receive exceptional service linked to their gastronomic or leisure experience, so in this competitive scenario, it is essential to meet expectations.
expectations. The proposal of the S U R U Cocktail Bar responds to this objective, offering its clientele a minimalist cocktail menu, in which Km 0 products from the Finca de Veneguera are the protagonists. From the garden to the cocktail shaker, this is the philosophy behind the creations that can be enjoyed with the formidable views of the Atlantic Ocean and under the watchful eye of the Maspalomas Lighthouse.
The aperitifs are the most successful cocktails, both among the guests of the Hotel Faro, a Lopesan Collection Hotel and among the general public, with proposals that fuse selected ingredients with low-temperature cooking, osmosis and maceration. A good example is the original Tuno vuò fà l’americano, which requires the slow cooking of the Indian Tuno from Veneguera in a Campari-based formul.
Quality service requires training
Attention to detail makes the difference in an optimal service, and the only guarantee for achieving excellence is to have a staff of professionals who are up to the quality standards that each client expects to receive. In this respect, the continuous training of employees is an essential element.
Aware of this, Lopesan Hotel Group has organised a training session for its employees with the director of the Campari Academy in Spain, Giuseppe Santamaría.
During the talk, attendees had the opportunity to delve into the techniques for making aperitifs, putting into practice the preparation of five different cocktails and applying the new knowledge acquired. The master class also analysed the wide range of low-alcoholic drinks that are currently setting the pace of cocktail trends worldwide and which form the backbone of the menus available in bars.

The signature cocktail bar is, together with the creation of synergies with prestigious international brands, one of the main components of the Meloneras Majestic Mile (MMM) project, which seeks to transform the destination through the integration of a top quality accommodation proposal with a complementary commercial, leisure and restaurant offer, aimed at a premium type of traveller. With this type of action, Lopesan Hotel Group brings its proven experience to shape a package of additional attractions that add value to the most distinguished area in the south of Gran Canaria
