Heineken Spain has appointed Mexican Ricardo Nuncio as its new Director of Distribution and On-trade Sales with the aim of leading the brewer’s growth agenda in the on-trade sector, relying on innovation and digitalisation as key enablers.
“My goal is to contribute to create the largest beverage e-commerce platform in the on-trade in Spain, Eazle, to make life easier for our customers and drive their growth, accompanying them in their digital transformation,” explains Ricardo Nuncio, Heineken’s new Horeca manager.
The company thus relies on its internal talent to lead the sales team in Spain. Nuncio, who will report directly to the president of Heineken Spain, Etienne Strijp, and will be part of the steering committee in our country, joined the company in 2010 as part of the acquisition of Femsa Cerveza and has more than 20 years of experience in commercial leadership positions.
Three years ago, he was appointed regional sales director for northeast Mexico. Under his leadership, the region has achieved strong financial performance and full alignment of the territory with EverGreen’s global strategy. Nuncio holds a chemical engineering degree from Tecnológico de Monterrey and an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management.
Nuncio replaces Spaniard Manuel Román, who will become senior director of Sales in Mexico as of May, reporting directly to Heineken Mexico general manager Guillaume Duverdier.
Román’s career, a graduate in Business Administration and Management (ADE) and Law and EMBA from IESE, embodies the values of promotion and professional growth that characterise the group’s people management. In 2006, he joined Heineken Spain as a management trainee, working in the Legal, Sales, Trade-Marketing and Marketing departments for two years.
Etienne Strijp: “We welcome our new Director of Distribution and Hospitality Sales, Ricardo Edmundo Nuncio, and celebrate the great professional and personal opportunity that Manuel Román is starting in Mexico”.
Since then he has held different strategic positions: manager in direct distribution, area manager in Alicante, territorial director of Levante and director of Commercial Operations, achieving a comprehensive vision of this critical area of the brewery’s business. In 2018, he was appointed Director of Distribution and Sales to Horeca, becoming part of the Management Committee.
During this time, Román has driven the transformation of the area, from strategy to execution, and has tackled important challenges, one of the most difficult being leading the organisation of the department during the pandemic. Together with his team, he has driven the growth of the channel and its digitalisation with very solid results.
Particularly committed to the development of his team, he has transformed the commercial model and consolidated continuous training through the Sales School, as well as fostering diversity in his team by achieving a progress of women in the commercial team from 6% to 34%.
“We welcome our new Director of Distribution and Hospitality Sales, Ricardo Edmundo Nuncio, and at the same time we celebrate the great professional and personal opportunity that Manuel Román is starting in Mexico. A great colleague who will be missed for his resilience, his ability to overcome challenges and his strong leadership”, Etienne Strijp said.
