The Best Pizza in Spain 2023 is in Madrid
The pizzeria Can Pizza, which has establishments in Barcelona and Madrid, has been proclaimed the winner of the Best Pizza in Spain 2023 Contest, according to the organisation in a press release.
Specifically, the pizzeria has won this award for the second time after being proclaimed champion in 2021 with its ‘Jerry Tomato’, while in this edition it has won the prize with the ‘Pulp Edition’ pizza, made with sobrasada, octopus, Kalamata Olive and Mozzarella di Búfala.
“Our Margarita is a well-made classic recipe and we thought of calling the freestyle pizza Pulp Edition. In the first edition of which we were the winners, the origin of the ingredients was taken into account, so in this case we have decided to use ingredients from all over the peninsula, from Galician octopus to Mallorcan sobrasada”, explained pizzaioli Marco Zambonardi and Massimo Comune.
Prize for the pizza that goes best with a Rueda Verdejo wine
For its part, the new award offered by the Rueda A.O. for the pizza that best goes with a Rueda Verdejo wine went to the restaurant Mo de Movimiento (Madrid) and its Espárrago pizza. “The Esparrago pizza is the one we have a special affection for, it has been on the menu since the opening of the restaurant, it is possibly one of Mo de Movimiento’s emblematic pizzas. It is a pizza with three flavours and each ingredient in two textures, asparagus, Iberian jowl and Galmesan cheese”, said Matteo Concu and Jaime Donaire, representatives of the Mo de Movimiento restaurant.
This competition, presented by Madrid Fusión Alimentos de España and promoted by the D.O. Rueda, aims to raise awareness of the world of artisan pizza and to reward the best ‘pizzaiolo’ in Spain.
