The Costume Museum’s sought-after restaurant and catering space goes out to tender for 7 million euros
New business opportunity in the booming catering market in sight. The Ministry of Culture and Sport has put out to tender the concession of the catering service at the Museo del Traje, which according to information consulted by Sivarious includes the restaurant, cafeteria and catering. The complex, located at Avenida Juan de Herrera nº 2 in Madrid, also houses the Ethnological Heritage Research Centre.
The restaurant and cafeteria of the Museo del Traje have been managed by Grupo Lezama since 2012. It does so independently under the Café de Oriente brand and through Alabardero Catering, a firm from which it provides service for meals and events with a maximum capacity for 1,600 people. It is part of the 10 restaurants, catering line, three hotel management schools, an online hotel management school and a school that make up the group’s catering business.
Thus, after eleven years under the management of the Lezama Group, the launch of the Museo del Traje has aroused the interest of important players in Madrid’s culinary scene. Especially taking into account that, due to its size and characteristics, it is considered one of the most attractive spaces in the capital. The total surface area of the cafeteria and restaurant, located in a separate building, is 810 m2 of usable space.
Based on the information in the tender documents, the estimated value of the contract is 7.1 million euros, taking into account the one-year duration and the four-year maximum extension period. The minimum annual fee will be 15,000 euros.
As for the award criteria, the technical offer will weigh 45 points out of a total of 100, of which 20 will correspond to the organisation and management project and the other 25 to the elements of the charter. The economic part will be assessed with up to 40 points, while 10 points will be awarded on the basis of the increase in the number of free hours per year for catering services and the remaining 5 points on the basis of commitments aimed at increasing the quality of the service.
In this respect, the contractor will provide a high quality catering service for institutional events and to cater for extraordinary activities organised directly by the museum, such as exhibition openings or the annual Donors’ Day event.

With regard to the 20 hours of free catering service per year, the management of the centre must notify the company awarded the contract at least seven days in advance of these events.
The opening hours of the Museo del Traje restaurant will be independent of the museum’s opening hours and will always be set with the agreement of the centre’s management. The service will also be provided on specific occasions, outside the established days and hours, when the museum management requires it on the occasion of activities such as openings, courses or congresses.
